Managing Life

One of the main global targets to solve along this century will be to ensure the availability and quality of water. Accordingly, the harmonization of water supply infrastructures with the environment, besides the adequate security measures, will be increasingly demanded by the society.

Water is also one of the main aggressive element s to take in account in the construction of infrastructures. Water can affect concrete and steel, directly or through the transport of active ions, leading to a gradual degradation and reducing the service life of the water infrastructure.

However, all infrastructures involved in the water management cycle (dams, canals, treatment plants, pipes, tanks…) should have a long life span..

This perspective is affected by the environmental and preservation conditions. Therefore, it’s important to standardize action guidelines to extend service life of the infrastructure and to avoid water leakages.
